UoN calls for Partnerships towards the UoN Annual Sports Day
The University of Nairobi annual Sports Day is scheduled on October 9, 2025, at the Main Campus sports grounds. This event marks the 7th edition of the championship, with the first edition held in 2018. Following the success of previous editions, the event has become a highly cherished tradition within the university community. The proposed theme for this year's Sports Day is "Stronger Together Through Sport - We Win."
Sports Day brings together over 3,500 students and staff teams from all university faculties and campuses, including those in Kisumu and Mombasa. The essence of the UON Sports Day is to unite staff and students from the participating faculties and campuses through sports, promote interaction and socialization among participants, and channel the university community's passion, energy, and enthusiasm into a collective effort through athletics.
The games are structured similarly to the Olympic Games and competitions in various major disciplines that resonate with both staff and students. This year's Sports Day will include events such as Football, Basketball, Rugby, Volleyball, Handball, Swimming, Athletics, Badminton, Scrabble, Chess, Darts, Goalball, Creative Games, and Tug-of-War, among others.
The university management organizes the event under a Local Organizing Committee chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration and Academic Affairs. This committee is further divided into five sub-committees, each chaired by Deans from different faculties, in collaboration with the Directorate of Games and Sports.
The university has previously sought sponsorship and support from our esteemed alumni and organizations as key partners for this great event. Their contributions have made it possible for the University of Nairobi to hold Sports Day annually. Sponsorship opportunities include:
1) Medals & Trophies, certificates for the winning individuals/teams
2) Branded kits for the 12 teams as per the facility/campus color-coded kits
3) Meals, refreshments, and water for all the participants and officials
4) Provision of first aid medical supplies
5) Marketing, media liaison, and publicity of the event
6) Event banners and roll-up banners
7) Public address system and entertainment
8) Facilitation of referees, umpires, and event coordinators
The University calls on its partners to partner on this year's Annual Sports Day 2025. For more information, write to the Director, Department of Sports, dept-sports@uonbi.ac.ke
