In a very colourful Ceremony, celebrated on Saturday, July 29, 2023, The Chartered Institute of Public Relations- University of Nairobi Accredited Teaching Centre graduated its 3rd cohort of PR practitioners.

While conferring the Professional PR Certificates and Diplomas, the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Julius Ogeng’o congratulated the graduates, ‘The CIPR qualification opens limitless world of opportunities for you and without further hesitation, let me congratulate you and wish you success in your professional growth.’

He further urged the graduates, ‘With the quality knowledge that you have acquired at this center, we expect that you will play strategic roles in your organizations and help your organizations navigate through challenges of the internet age characterized by content overload and content shock, and not forgetting misinformation and disinformation.  The internet revolution has had unprecedented impact on the PR profession. It is easier to find yourself in a crisis situation.’

On his part, Mr. Paul Victor Oloo from Coca-Cola spoke on behalf of Industry and he urged the PR practitioners to leverage on Technology and the emergence of AI to inform their decisions and increase their impact especially in community.

Mr. Oloo gave instances of where data has assisted his organization to make decisions on how to improve their community engagement.

The CIPR Programme Coordinator and the Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. John Orindi noted that the CIPR qualification has a lot of emphasis on research. It equips the PR practitioners to make decisions based on evidence of where their target audiences are, the best way to reach their audiences and the best vehicle or mode of packaging of their messages. He applauded the graduates and encouraged them to be brand ambassadors of the teaching centre and to continue leveraging on their networks. He also urged them to keep pursuing knowledge and to discover innovative ways of practising their craft. He challenged them to maximize on technology to increase their impact.

Mrs. Mariam Maina-Kamau, Corporate Communications Manager, Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency,  and CIPR tutor,  congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to keep innovating and evolving in their PR profession practice. She also encouraged them to leverage on the networks that they have made.

Ms Salome Gathoni, who spoke on behalf of the graduates, elaborated the importance of CIPR qualification in her day to day tasks. She noted that the qualification and the classes increased her level of strategic thinking and application of evidence-based decisions in guiding management. Other graduate representatives that spoke shared testimonials of how they got promoted after attaining the CIPR qualification. They thanked the UoN teaching centre for the support and training that they received.

The CIPR- UoN Accredited Teaching Centre has trained over 100 PR practitioners in East Africa that have been awarded the CIPR qualifications. The 17 graduates have joined the 11,000 globally accredited PR practitioners and can practice PR anywhere in the world.  The CIPR-UoN ATC is accepting applications for October intake for the Professional Diploma and the Professional Certificate. The qualifications are for those who would like to kick-start their career in PR and for those that would like
